Reflective Journal - Week 16

1.  What did you learn this semester. I learned about the following: leadership, hiring, firing, working with a team, communication, performance appraisals, problem employees, managing conflict, ethical responsibilities of nurses, managing healthcare resources, educators, the future of nursing, career development, staffing, managing change, strategic planning, health policy, conflict resolution, motivation, risk management, and legal responsibilities.  I think the main things that stood out to me were problem employees, conflict resolution, managing change, and motivation. Dealing with any type of conflict is hard for me. I just try to ignore it, but this class made me realize that it is important to resolve conflicts in a professional way and strategies on how to do that. I think managing change really stood out to me because of the video. The video was kind of weird, but it had good messages. I loved all the quotes at the end. I also really like how we talked about motivation. When I

Reflective Journal - Week 15

 1. What did you learn from the unit? I learned about risk management and I learned more about how to make my portfolio better for our final submission and to get some points back. I learned a lot from the articles I chose and read this week. 2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? The team activity we had this week was about a patient who accidentally lit himself on fire while trying to get out of restraints. We considered the risk management and what we should have done to prevent this from happening, as well as what needs to be done after an event like that. Everyone came to a consensus in my group that a one-to-one should be applied to patients at high risk for hurting themselves, or if they need the supervision for another important reason. My opinion was that the hospital shouldn’t have to take blame for this patient’s stupid choice. I don’t know if anyone agreed. I still feel the same, but

  1. Write a letter to your younger self who is starting their first day of nursing school, m otivate them, g ive them advice (What you know now) and  anything else you want to add... Dear Savannah,     Congratulations on all your hard work and getting into nursing school at UVU! This is the beginning of something that will be so hard, but SO worth it. First, I want to calm your fears. You will graduate! You will get a job that is perfect for you and for the time of your life that you got it! I know you are scared and worried about how you will complete nursing school, since you just found out that you are pregnant with your first baby, but guess what, you are going to be just fine and you will love all the moments of the hard, because you will be creating your family and preparing yourself to provide for it! You will have another baby too in nursing school, and you will still survive!     Just do your very best, and it will be more than enough. Don't stress too much, but just stre

Reflective Journal - Week 13

What did you learn form the unit? This week we learned about collective bargaining and conflict resolution. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities. Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, why? If not, why? The team activities this week was sharing the results of our bargaining assignment and another about conflict resolution. I didn’t learn much from sharing or reading others’ results, but it was interesting to see what they decided on and how much of their bargain they were able to lock in. I surprised by how many people had to go on strike. For the conflict resolution, I learned more about different types on communication and best gods to deal with conflicts in the workplace. I agreed with what my team had to say about that. How will you utilize the information learned into your nursing practice? In a profession dominated by women, drama and gossip are common. I think knowing how to have good conflict resolution and implementing what I learned about it

Reflective Journal - Week 12

What did you learn from the unit? This unit, there was a focus on strategic planning. My group had many activities together this week.  Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? There were so many team activities this week. Working with a team can be hard, just because there is a lot of coordination that needs to happen and communication. The strategic planning activity was really confusing to me, so to be honest, I didn’t learn as much as I hoped I would from it. I liked our team discussion about a strategic plan around making our university better. I think my team all agreed that we should have an NP program at UVU. My opinion about it the delivery of these classes changed. At first, I thought that they should all be online, but after reading some of my team’s replies, I realized that NPs need good hands on, face-to-face, learning as well.  How you will utilize the information learned in your nursin
