Reflective Journal Week 14 - Nursing Across the Ages
1. What I learned from the course.
Before taking this course, I never considered the history of nursing. I didn’t realize how different it was even just 50 years ago. There are people that I know and that are still living that were nurses that had a completely different experience with nursing than I did. I learned that nursing outfits were super cute in the past. I wish we still wore dresses and aprons. I can do without the weird boat hat though! I learned to have a greater appreciation with how far nursing and nursing education has come. It has made me more thankful for my profession and makes me excited for the future.
2. How I will utilize the information learned in my nursing practice.
I will utilize the information I learned to be a more thankful nurse and to complain less. Nurses in the past seemed to have it really hard. We have a lot of technology that helps make our job easier, mostly. I will have a greater respect for those I work with that have been nurses for decades.
3. My personal feelings about the course.
I enjoyed this course and learning about the past, but I didn’t like the busy work. I understand this must be apart of online courses, but I wish there were more videos and documentaries to see what it was like. The literature reviews taught me a lot, but more videos would be even more educational. I am glad I chose this course and learned so much! I have a much greater appreciation and amazement towards the nursing profession!
